Indignant over the immorality of Rep. Weiner, New Yorkers vote in the founder of the Jerry Springer Show!

Few things served late-night comedians in the month of June as well as the pronunciation of the former N.Y. representative's name, a twisted variant of the original German in which Anthony's surname is pronounced "Vy-ner." Mispronunciations aside ----we've become accustomed to Henry Man-see-nee rather than Man-chee-nee and several still refer to the esteemed attorney as Vincent Bug-lee-oh-see rather than Boo-lee-oh-see-the real issue is that Anthony Weiner, despite certain support, felt the need to step down following a scandal involving the practice of "sexting."

The moral people of New York spoke, and quite vociferously, I might add. Rep. Weiner had engaged in behavior unbecoming of an elected official, his antics tarnished the office he swore to uphold and he had brought shame upon his spouse and those who supported him, thus he is no longer Rep. Weiner, but Anthony Weiner, private citizen.

What is curious is that Mr. Weiner's affront to the morality of the good people of New York can now be analyzed in light of today's special election. On this very date, a Republican candidate assumed the office once held by the disgraced Congressman. This is no ordinary man who assumes the post, this is a politician who comes to us from the world of show business. The transition from show business to politics has been done before, yet the CV of the new representative does not list "Bedtime for Bonzo" as its primary embarassment, no, Bob Turner is the man who helped unleash the "Jerry Springer Show" on the American public.

That is correct, Bob Turner, a man who helped launch the ultimate in salacious entertainment, a program that brought the themes of incest, bestiality, murky paternity, racial hatred and other subjects is now representative for District 9. Finally the indignant people of New York, aghast at the moral turpitude of Rep. Weiner have spoken and empowered his moral superior, the man who gave us glimpses of the underclass from a safe distance! What does this say for the voters? Not much. The Jerry Springer Show is barely a step above sexting. It's an exploitative and somewhat macabre spectacle that gives average citizens a way of feeling superior to the great unwashed. The "Jerry Springer Show" has done a disservice to our nation on several levels, most notably that of popular culture. It has given a platform to those who see fist fighting as the ultimate in conflict resolution, a stage for those who see themselves above their fellow human based on race alone, an arena for the exhibitionist and her exploiter.

What has happened in New York neither validates nor exonerates Mr. Weiner. All it shows is that one who is censured for indecent behavior can see his post taken by an individual who has made a career out of purveying the most obscene spectacle of all: the degradation of humanity for the entertainment of the masses.
